As noted many times, I’m no fan of the red dress. The problem with the red dress on a red carpet is that it bleeds into the carpet. And also every time a designer sends a red dress down a runway it’s always made for the vixen, mega vavavoom.

But what if red could be cute, girlish, and sweet? These are not the attributes usually associated with the colour. And this how Alber Elbaz imagined red for Lanvin and Emma Stone. It works the other way around too.

Had she worn it in white, we may have had to eyeroll. Pink is out of the question. Black lacks inspiration. Oh but Red. A little red teacup worn by a beloved Hollywood gamine that goes nowhere near floor length...

Finally a red dress I can live with.
