Bewitching Emma Stone
Yorgos Lanthimos and Ari Aster are filmmakers who love to make movies that challenge audiences, and what else do they have in common? Emma Stone. This year, she’s starring in new films from both Lanthimos and Aster. First up it’s Ari Aster’s Eddington, which had a premiere in Los Angeles last night. The premiere lacked Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler, but it did have Joaquin Phoenix, hoo raaaay.
Lainey previously observed that Emma Stone’s pixie cut is giving Winona, and like Winona Ryder before her, Emma Stone is going to convince a generation of people to try a short do that will turn out to be ill advised on 99% of faces not belonging to Emma Stone.

Bewitching! Beguiling! Bugonia!
That’s Emma’s other movie this year, the one that reunites her with Yorgos Lanthimos. The trailer for Bugonia dropped yesterday.
After Kinds of Kindness, I’m a little wary of more Lanthimos/Stone collabs, they maybe need to take a break and let some fresh air into their co-creative cabin, but also, that’s a great use of Green Day. And I always enjoy it when Jesse Plemons plays a guy who just totally wigs out. And Bugonia is written by Will Tracy, who co-wrote The Menu, so I am a little curious to see where it goes. Okay, maybe I’m sold.
