It’s been a long, LONG time since there’s been any mention of Emma Watson, not just here at this site but most sites. This is how she wanted it – Emma said she was taking a break from acting, and she hasn’t been in a feature length film since 2018 in Little Women

It makes sense when you consider that so much of her childhood was spent on a film set: eight Harry Potters and all the other projects she took on in her teens and 20s. Emma is now 35 years old, which means this is the only decade of her life in which she has not acted in movies (she auditioned for Harry Potter when she was nine).

Surprisingly, though, Emma Watson has turned up in Cannes. It’s been a full Chinese zodiac cycle – 12 years – since she was last there, for The Bling Ring. Today she was seen having lunch and walking along the Croisette in a pink gingham drop waist dress and I like the unexpected shoe choice: suede Chanel boots.

She also arrived at the airport in Nice wearing Chanel so I wonder… is this appearance in Cannes about Chanel?

What else happened today…

I don’t watch The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives but I’m aware the show has a big audience. Dustin Rowles today writes that none of these women have “emotionally graduated [from] middle school”. But then isn’t that a requirement – or lack of one – when you sign up for these shows? With the exception of Garcelle Beauvais, ofc. (Pajiba)

The Fug Girls are talking about their holy grail serums so here’s mine: Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. I know, I know, it’s pricey. But I’ve been using it every morning since 2017, one bottle lasts me four to five months, and I haven’t found a more economical alternative. My night serum, however, changes all the time. The latest has been Clinique. (Go Fug Yourself)

I read Violet Affleck’s essay on climate change and COVID this morning. She’s done her reading and she presents her arguments backed by research to support her thesis but of course the headlines in other entertainment outlets about this today, including PEOPLE and Page Six, are about how she fought with her mom. Sadly she must be familiar with this kind of media treatment considering who her parents are. (Celebitchy)

Ella Morgan makes a great point about Cannes in her piece today about how “Women can't wear sheer dresses, but horrible men can be centre stage at Cannes”. (Mamamia)
