As mentioned yesterday, the Venice Film Festival opens tomorrow. George and Amal Clooney don’t have to go all that far to get to Venice. They spend their summers in Lake Como and when you can travel the way they do, it’s not a taxing trip.

George, of course, has been to Venice many times before. But this is a strike year, and as one of the movie stars who has donated to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and, along with Meryl Streep, among a handful of big names who’s been personally making calls appealing to members to support the union and contribute to the foundation, there is no way George is in Venice in any capacity that would violate the rules.

In fact, it doesn’t seem like he’s in Venice for his own work at all. Rather the Clooneys are there because it’s Amal who’s being honoured at the DVF Awards for her human rights advocacy. So, as usual, George is a proud plus one to the woman he was fortunate to marry…at the place where they got married.

Their wedding was in Venice, September 2014. So it’s almost been a decade for the Clooneys. And they’ve just passed the ten year anniversary of when they met, which was in the summer of 2013. At his place in Lake Como. That’s how long George Clooney has been not single. George has been famous for 30 years, since ER premiered in 1994. For two thirds of his fame, then, he was known as Hollywood’s ultimate bachelor. And now I can barely remember it, not since Amal.
