The cast of Twisters is in London to make the final push ahead of the release of the movie on July 19. Here are Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos last night at the premiere and also today at the photo call.

A quick note on Daisy – this is her highest profile project, a pure summer popcorn movie, so different from the quieter work that we know her from, like Normal People and Where the Crawdads Sing. I like this choice, I like that she’s not too prestige to take on roles that lots and lots of people will see at the movies.

Speaking of lots and lots of people though, here’s our (projected) next big Movie Star, Glen Powell, headlining a tentpole right in the middle of blockbuster season. We’ll find out in a couple of weeks if the box office supports his claim to that title but here’s what we can say about him so far: he understands the assignment, he wants it with no shame, and he will do what it takes to get you to see a movie… with an assist from his professional mentor, Tom Cruise, who showed up last night to play wingman for his protégé.

No one loves a popcorn movie more than Tom Cruise who’s been making them for 40 years. And for Tom to stand up for Glen like this, well, it’s truly an honour. But also, to go back to what I was saying yesterday about the British Grand Prix and his absence from the paddock…

I’m telling you, he’s in London, he clearly had the time to come out for Glen – why is he skipping the F1 circuit when Brad Pitt’s around?!

Back to Glen leveraging all his resources for promotion, it’s not just calling in a favour from the Top Gun, but also the thirst traps. In Celebrity Social Media yesterday, Maria compared Glen to Chris Evans and I’ll extend the comparison. Because Chris has his dog Dodger, his secret weapon.

And Glen’s leaning into the puppy porn too

The puppy AND the abdominal V? Please. You are hitting multiple demos here, sir. The dog lovers, the horny women, and the gays. All of whom are loyal and reliable. All of whom are often underserved and underappreciated because they will come through for you every time.

Glen Powell is going for it. He tries, his ambition is naked and unapologetic. This is the very quality that makes him as close to an heir to Tom Cruise as we’ve seen in a long time, maybe ever. You know, without all the cult business.
