Dear Gossips,
The Busan International Film Festival kicked off yesterday with a global superstar in attendance, once described by the LA Times as “the coolest actor in the world”: Chow Yun-Fat. That was in 1995. And he is still the coolest actor in the world.
Look at him in his wide leg pants at the press conference, as stylish as ever at 67 years old.
Fat Gor, which is his nickname in the industry (“Fat” means prosper, and “gor” in this context means big brother), was there with Jasmine Tan, his wife and manager. My ma and her friends used to gossip all the time about this relationship because when they got married in the 80s he was already a big star and she’s wasn’t famous at all (although she comes from a wealthy family) but according to the mahjong gossip wires at the time (the tea is always hot at the mahjong table), Jasmine is Fat Gor’s good luck charm. This is feng shui love, and like so many Chinese of his generation, Fat Gor is superstitious, and Jasmine changed his fortunes, redirected his energy flow, so their bond is deeply rooted in culture and spirituality.
Here they are at the gala last night.
And here they are at an event back in June because I want to show you, again, how steezy he is.
And at the Shanghai Film Festival that same month – his jaunty pink neck scarf! Sir!
Fat Gor is currently promoting a new film, One More Chance, but he doesn’t work all that often anymore and joked during the presser that his first career was acting and his second career is being an athlete. Because he’s obsessed with running now – apparently people in Hong Kong see him all the time running in the mountains. He’s almost 70 years old and in the best shape of his life. Fat Gor forever!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
