Sarah taught us a new word last night: achromatic. It was an achromatic night in fashion at the Oscars – very little colour, to Duana’s disappointment. Even when there was colour it was the lightest shade of whatever colour was chosen. There was a lot of black and white and silver and while this post isn’t all of the, um, achromatica, here are some of those fashion highlights as a segue to the real point of the post: couples intrigue.
Let’s start with Greta Lee because oh my GOD this black and white dress is good.
Not surprisingly she’s wearing Loewe, because she’s one of Jonathan Anderson’s favourites and I think we can all understand why – this is a slamdunk partnership and this look is the perfect way to cap off her award season. I love the way the white curtains create a drop waist effect at her hips and loop up at the back and around the neck. It’s not, like, super complicated but it feels fresh, imaginative, and wearable, chic and also comfortable. But expensive, too.
Over at Vanity Fair, Sydney Sweeney showed up in champagne and at first I thought it was a whole Marilyn Monroe thing but then…
HOWWWWW was that 20 years ago?!
Sydney’s stylist, Molly Dickson, just put together a great run for her in New York for Saturday Night Live. Going archival for Oscar weekend, and in a dress associated with THE Angelina Jolie is a big swing. I don’t hate it, but I do wonder if this is also pulling from the Zendaya and Law Roach playbook to establish Sydney as a style star. Law is the very best at strategically going into the archives at key moments for Zendaya. Now, as Sydney has taken her career to the next level, a similar strategy seems to be at play?
Now let’s get to the couples – Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons in white and black respectively, but let me just show you why I wanted to talk about them. This video KILLS me:

Kiki and Jesse are being golf carted to the Oscars from the Roosevelt, which is the hotel that is the easiest to access from the Dolby. The sight of him sitting in the back, holding her bag… it’s hysterical, and not just because I’m delirious. At some point they also hit up the smoking section:

But only after almost knocking over an Oscar, LOLOLOLOL:

This is why some corners of the internet are obsessed with them – they’re perfect together in all the right ways.
Next – Barry Keoghan was just in Singapore with Sabrina Carpenter. Now they’re both back in LA and they attended the Vanity Fair party, together, and he had on a friendship bracelet with her name on it…

…and posed for an official photo with her, both wearing black:
So it’s officially official at the Oscars.
And now we come to Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. There’s been speculation for MONTHS. I hate this speculation – not because I don’t believe it but because I really do hope they make it. Their whole vibe at the Oscars though…
I was watching them on all the feeds – from the limo cam to the photo wall and all the way down the carpet, they barely spoke to each other. It was off, they were off. She was exquisite in this silver two piece and his tux is excellent, but there was no heat, no chemistry, and I’ve seen them before, I have something to compare it to…and it’s different, to me it’s different. I’m not the only one who read it this way. The socials were on it. But then on Gabrielle’s socials, it was another story:
And at Vanity Fair, where she changed into a less interesting silver dress, they were all loving up on each other. So I guess there’s nothing to see here, but why am I becoming so much less confident?
