The music video for Gwen Stefani’s Christmas single “You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” featuring her boyfriend Blake Shelton, is out now. I wrote about the song a little over a year ago when it dropped last holiday season. So, you could say this video was highly anticipated? I don’t understand why it took a whole year for it to come out but I also don’t understand who was waiting for this. I think I tolerate Gwen and Blake’s extra more than the average person and even I cringed through all three minutes and three seconds of Blake’s awkward two-step, finger-snapping dance moves.
Gwen is probably trying to remind everyone that her Christmas album exists just in time for the holidays but she succeeded more at reminding us all how much more swagger she has than Blake. It’s not that Blake isn’t charming. He’s got something about him, sure, but his charm looks amateur compared to Gwen Stefani’s rock star presence. Their vibes don’t match. Since their voices and styles are so different, they both look uncomfortable trying to get on each other’s levels. Opposites attract. I get that. What I don’t understand is why they’re trying to force this together in song and dance. To quote myself like an asshole, here’s what I wrote a year ago when “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” dropped:
Does Gwen know that they can continue f-cking without making music together? Is this the equivalent of JLo always giving her boyfriends jobs?
That was before the music video. Oh god, this music video. The theme is It’s A Wonderful Life meets 1950s variety show, I guess? Both Gwen and Blake look great. The dancing kids are cute. Those are the only nice things I have to say about the “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” music video. There’s a whole gag about Blake Shelton trying to crack open a chestnut, one where Gwen sprays a turkey and a very original bit about a naughty Santa Claus. There, I watched it so you don’t have to. If you can handle the schmaltz, cheese and Blake and Gwen at their CORNIEST, the video is below.
