The next Rhode collaboration is spot patches by Justin Bieber.  It’s very Gen Z to wear these patches outside and I appreciate that a lot of young people embrace it. It’s a rebellion for a generation that grew up with social media faces.

Papa, why are you so mean to your number one boy? (But it’s kind of funny that Brian Cox is obsessed with Jermey Strong. The show wrapped a few years ago, get over it!)

Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar are doing Tourism BC’s job pretty well. Listening to Elijah I’m like damn I want to go there… and I live here.

Orlando Bloom and Drew Barrymore got together to film a commercial for a cruise line (recession indicator) and I hate to say it, but I could kind of see this happening. Orlando soft-launched someone recently but I don’t know.

Lena Dunham’s new book Famesick comes out next week and we are going to have to endure another round of discourse but it is also a great time to rewatch Girls. I did it during Covid and am of the firm belief that Panic in Central Park is one of the best episodes of television, ever.

I’ve written about Emma Grede before; the WSJ calls her the “Kardashian whisperer” and it’s obvious that so much of what has shaped celebrity trends over the last 10 years has been influenced by Emma’s work. Her new book Start With Yourself goes where some women have gone before (remember Lean In?). These advice books always seem to skirt around the most important details. Money doesn’t solve every problem but it solves some very specific ones. She and her husband (and business partner) Jens have four kids. How much time did they take for parental leave? Who organizes the family calendar? Women have had enough social media and celebrity influencers telling them to “secure their own oxygen mask.” Great, lovely sentiment. What’s their childcare cost every month? Without the specifics, it’s a toothless repackaging of mid-aughts corporate feminism speak that was focused on women changing their behaviour, rather than challenging the system. The Girl Boss is dead, long live the Girl Boss.

We need celebrities to start making some bad decisions asap – affairs, feuds, get back on Twitter. We can’t get through the Current Times on these paltry headlines.
