Jen and Jim keep doubling
Jennifer Aniston’s relationship with Jim Curtis, the hypnotist, has been public for almost a month now, after they were seen on holiday in Mallorca with Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka. This week they’ve been in New York, and when I say “they”, I mean all of them – Jen, Jim, Jason, and Amanda. Last night they went out for dinner with Jason and Amanda’s children.
Even though Jen and Jim staggered their entrances and exits so as to not be photographed in the same frame, they’re also not exactly hiding the romance. She’s a seasoned celebrity, she would know that their relationship has been making headlines, she would know that if she’s in New York, with him, there would have to be a lot more covert planning to avoid being photographed. So while we’re not yet at the hard launch stage yet, it seems like we might be getting closer?
Baby steps though. Like super baby steps. Because at this point, they’ve only ever been seen with Jason and Amanda - obviously we don’t know how much time Jen and Jim spend together alone but in public so far that we’ve seen, it’s only been doubles. Double dates in Europe, double dates back in the US, it’s almost like Jason and Amanda are their chaperones, lol.
How many public doubles before we proceed to a public solo? And what’s the next step after that? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, gossip is more fun when it’s rolled out gradually, in stages. Jen and Jim are pretty much the 2025 celebrity romance version of Bridgerton. And it’s kind of amazing that we are still gossiping about Jen’s love life after almost 30 years.
Speaking of - I marked a major gossip anniversary at The Squawk last week with an essay about the 20TH anniversary of Jen’s Vanity Fair cover story for the September 2000 issue which would have dropped 20 years ago this month. This is the interview where she said of Brad Pitt that “there’s a sensitivity chip missing”. But the piece, like gossip itself, illuminated so much more than that broken marriage and reading it back now it continues to be insightful about how we engaged with that story then and how celebrities themselves engaged with fame in that era.
