Intro for April 9, 2026

Dear Gossips,

My first thought when I saw the trailer for You, Me & Tuscany a few months ago was… oh, so this is While You Were Sleeping for Gen Z. Not complaining. I LOVE WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. Sandra Bullock is magic in that movie, Bill Pullman is adorable and sexy, Peter Gallagher is perfectly dopy, everyone understood the assignment – and the film left a template that has been in storage for much too long. So I’m excited that these tropes are being revived by You, Me & Tuscany in a new setting with two new leads.

No one is in a coma in Tuscany – but Anna, our romantic leading lady played by Halle Bailey, does lie about a man she briefly crushed on, not correcting everyone who assumes she’s his fiancée, first because she wants to hang out in his Italian villa, LOL, but then because she falls in love with his adorable family, just like Sandra Bullock’s Lucy in While You Were Sleeping. That also, of course, includes hunky cousin Michael, played by Regé-Jean Page. Plus, two best friends, one back at home and a new one in Italy, who know about the deception and are the sounding boards for her increasingly absurd predicament. And so much food and travel porn.

We know that Anna will eventually have to confess; we know that she and Michael will fall in love, we know that she will gain a whole loving family in the process… it wouldn’t be a rom-com otherwise. And also, we go into rom-coms with an understanding that the tropes will be served!

Here are Halle and Regé-Jean at the premiere in New York last night. Halle is in Christian Siriano, stunning in a fitted black gown that opens up into a polka dot mermaid tail.

You, Me & Tuscany opens tomorrow. And later this year, once it’s available on streaming, we should make it a cozy double bill during the holidays with While You Were Sleeping.
