Because I am always lowkey checking for Julia Stiles, Kat Stratford of my heart, I was excited to see her out and about yesterday, heading into The View dressed in winter chic.
Julia is making the rounds, promoting her feature directorial debut, Wish You Were Here, a romantic drama she also wrote (adapting from Renee Carlino’s book of the same name). That’s right, Julia Stiles is in her directress era.
Maybe now the internet will stop showing me Stiles’ picture with headlines like “why Hollywood turned on her”. I have never once in my life clicked on that kind of garbage, and yet it persists in my feed. Where is the algorithm when you need it? Algorithms are like deadbeat boyfriends, always hanging around taking up space but never doing sh-t.
Besides being written and directed by Julia Stiles, Wish You Were Here stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Mena Massoud, Jennifer Grey, and Kelsey Grammer, which is a bunch of people I root for, plus Kelsey Grammer. It looks sappy as hell, and very much like the kind of Y2K rom-dram Stiles would have once starred in herself, and the reviews aren’t great, but I am rooting for Julia Stiles, always and forever. Hopefully this is just the beginning of her next phase.
