We have been talking about Kraven the Hunter for nigh on eighteen months, which is entirely too many months to allot to one of Sony’s Spider-Man films that doesn’t star Spider-Man.
But after many false starts—Kraven was supposed to come out in January 2023, October 2023, and August 2024—Kraven is finally, actually, for real this time coming out on December 13. The press tour has begun, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and director JC Chandor appearing in London yesterday for a press event.
If nothing else, Kraven is, at least, giving us a lot of ATJ eye candy to enjoy. My expectations for this film could not be lower, basically all I’m expecting is for ATJ to look hot for two hours and then we will all agree to immediately forget this movie. I feel bad, because I admire JC Chandor’s work, but this is not it. Kraven the Hunter is where I draw the line.
But hey, after over a year of delays, ATJ and Chandor have stuck it out to the (almost) end. And with no other direct competition except for Gladiator II, which will be a month old by then, maybe Kraven can win the holiday box office by default. After all, having no competition actually worked out for Venom 3, to the tune of $437 million, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actually ended up turning a profit, so who knows. Maybe Kraven will come out okay in the wash. Weirder things have happened.
