Can you believe it’s been ten years since Céline Dion took over Paris Fashion Week with an assist from Law Roach and gave us one of the most delightful weeks in gossip history? I am not exaggerating. Every day she’d come out of her hotel and step on our necks in viral head-to-toe high fashion – none more viral than the Titanic hoodie.

It was a more innocent time. Not that anyone could say that the world was right at the time, of course not, but it definitely was a lot less wrong in July 2016. Céline was parading around Paris in the best clothes and it wasn’t just the looks, it was a f-cking performance every goddamn day. She’d strut and wave her arms around, she’d stand up through the sunroof of the car and pretend like she was a parade marshal. She was unhinged and completely bonkers, so basically her default position, and she came to entertain, she gave us what we wanted, and thus cemented herself as THE highlight of PFW…

In the decade since Céline took over Paris Fashion Week, well, so much has changed – politically, socially, environmentally, and medically. A cataclysmic election result, a pandemic, and a diagnosis. Céline retreated for years because of Stiff Person Syndrome but now, ten years later, she’s back in Paris. She’s well enough to perform, and she’s there to prepare for her residency later this month.

Is it too much to hope that since she’s in recovery that we might not be cooked quite yet? That the comeback of our Queen of All Feelings portends the possibility that the rest of it can be restored too? Sigh, probably. But she exists to manifest joy. Where there is Céline there will always be pure, earnest, and unapologetic sincerity. If we can actually save humanity, we’ll definitely need it.

Here is Céline, delivering nostalgia today outside her hotel in a dramatic – and probably unnecessary dress – doing a singalong with the fans camped outside. We need this more than ever. Also shots of her yesterday in Paris.

What else happened today…

Let’s stay on that earnest vibe a bit longer because Pajiba’s Dustin Rowles walked into a movie theatre this weekend to watch a movie he’d never heard of (neither have I) and was charmed by its Céline-ness. She’s not in the movie but it sounds like her spirit is. (Pajiba)

I’m really going to need Sarah’s thoughts on Timothy Olyphant and his hair. If you are a member of our Squawk community on Substack, please harass her for an answer, but in the form of a full article, we don’t need a one sentence response, we need an essay. (Go Fug Yourself)

I don’t believe that Kendall Jenner is paying for everything in her relationship with Jacob Elordi. I would believe, however, that a story like this would bother him. (Celebitchy)

Anyone I know who watches Silo is evangelical about it. But do they know everything about the lesbians on the show? (Autostraddle)

Today is also Zendaya’s birthday. Between Jung Kook and Z, September 1 produces icons only. Zendaya is now 30 years old, and celebrating quietly and privately with her husband and family. Essence has compiled some of her most iconic beauty moments. I’m still not over that FACE from The Odyssey premiere. (Essence)
