I was just saying in the last post of the day yesterday that Saturday Night Live had yet to announce its final two guest hosts for season 50 and then they posted it…

Walton Goggins, what did I tell you. It was two weeks ago today when I wrote that “it would not surprise me to see him both at the Met Gala and hosting SNL before 2025 is done”. And now here we are – he’s hosting SNL on the Saturday immediately after the Met Gala so on the first Monday in May, he should already be in NYC for the show anyway.

But now the intrigue because, of course, SNL f-cked up with their meanspirited joke about Aimee Lou Wood a couple of a weeks ago during their White Lotus parody. And with all the speculation about whether or not the two are no longer friendly, it’ll be interesting to see if he addresses it or, maybe, if she shows up to shut it all down for good.

That’s the penultimate episode of the season. The host for the final episode of SNL50 is Scarlett Johansson which makes all the sense. She’s a member of the Five Timers Club, this will be her seventh time as host, and it seems like, lately, she’s been making an appearance every other week.

This time could be more significant, though. No doubt, Scarlett has a few projects to promote which is why hosts typically come on the show. Her feature directorial debut, starring June Squibb, has been selected to screen at the Cannes Film Festival. Given that she’s hosting SNL on May 17, and the festival kicks off May 13, she’ll be expected to be in New York for rehearsals, so it looks like her premiere will happen during Cannes’ second week. There’s also Jurassic World Rebirth, due out in July so it’s a bit early.

I don’t think promotion, though, is the main reason Scarlett’s closing out SNL50. There’s been a lot of speculation that Michael Che and Colin Jost are leaving – and it’s looking more and more like it if Colin’s wife will be there on stage at the top and tail of the show, it could be because she’s commemorating his final episode.

Here’s Scarjo at the TIME100 gala last night.
