Tom Cruise was out in LA last night, seen on his bike outside the Sunset Tower where, according to the paps, he had dinner with friends. This is notable right now because Tom’s home for the last decade or more has been London – but the UK tabloids recently have been reporting that he’s heading back to Los Angeles, as packers and movers have been seen at his flat shipping things out

Tom spent less and less time in the United States after he and Katie Holmes broke up back in 2012. His popularity tanked, his reputation tanked, people were side-eyeing his Scientological associations, so he quit Hollywood for England and now… perhaps… he’s ready to return. After all, in the last five years, his public image has improved. The Academy just bestowed on him an honorary Oscar. And it’s anticipated that he will be mounting a proper Oscar campaign next fall with the release of Alejandro González Iñárritu's Digger in October. This film has been in post for almost a year, it should be ready by now if not soon. So I’m curious to see whether or not it’ll be on the festival schedule as early as the spring in Cannes or if they hold it for Venice, Telluride, or Toronto. Every festival director, no doubt, is chasing this title.

Because it’s Alejandro G Iñárritu but also, Tom Cruise in a dark comedy, not a pure action thriller? It’s been a minute. There are Expectations with this one. And maybe he’s starting that process early as he presumably resituates himself in the seat of western stardom.

What’s also interesting is that… well… it’s also been minute since Tom was on set. No filming for months. This is a man who prefers to live in production, what has he been doing with all this down time? Does Tom Cruise even understand the concept of down time?

What else happened today…

Earlier I wrote about BTS and how they left Korea and landed in Dubai, prompting speculation that they might be filming there. Turns out it was just a flight connection and they were next seen in Lisbon.

@sobhatamang OMGG THEY ARRIVED IN PORTUGAL!!!#BTS ♬ My Universe - Coldplay x BTS

It is f-cking wild to me that they still fly commercial. During the tour, they’ll probably be using a private jet here and there but, clearly they’re not on the PJ yet. And with their level of fame and celebrity, I don’t think anyone would begrudge them if they did.

Next, if you’re curious what Pete Davidson’s new podcast is like, Dustin Rowles has you covered. (Pajiba)

The London Critics’ Circle Film Awards happened on the same night as the Grammys. One Battle After Another was the big winner, and Jessie Buckley and Timothée Chalamet won in the lead acting categories. Also Jessie finally threw down a LOOK on the red carpet – this white sequin dress is very good! (Go Fug Yourself)

If for whatever reason, I end up single, I would totally subscribe to Keke Palmer’s dating philosophy about living arrangements. (The Root)

Jason Bateman is getting dragged online for assuming what Charli xcx might want in the future. The internet is telling him about himself but I’m not sure it’s necessary. Charli made it clear. (Celebitchy)

Charli is currently promoting her film, The Moment. Which is interesting to me because she has a lot of Gen Z and Alpha fans and apparently they don’t watch films anymore. In fact, film students might not even watch films anymore, which is f-cking tragic. Like from scrolling and making TikToks, they’re enrolling in film school thinking film is their future. (THR)
