Issa Rae and her now-husband, Louis Diame, have been together for years, since at least 2012. Unlike Bennifer, LOL, Issa does not put her love life on blast. So even though they’ve attended a few Hollywood events together, like here at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood event in 2017 …

…there isn’t much information about their relationship, how they met, and what exactly Louis does; all we know is that he’s not in the entertainment industry and clearly not interested in a public profile. Issa and Louis have been engaged since 2019 although she herself hasn’t gone on record to confirm it – instead it was Yvonne Orji and Jay Ellis who talked about it.

So it’s no surprise that their wedding was pretty undercover, no leaks, no one was tipped off, and it was Issa who made the announcement, in the most Issa way possible, on Instagram today:

Hilariously Louis isn’t even mentioned by name, instead she refers to him as “Somebody’s Husband”, which I’m sure he’s fine with, especially since, as just noted, they’ve been so private about their relationship – and now marriage. The fact that she posted about it at all is probably because of the credits: the dress, the styling team, the wedding planners, etc. Issa Rae, of course, would never not acknowledge people’s work.

And besides, for a bride, on a day like this, it’s understandable to want to be seen.

So here we are, the third major celebrity wedding of the year, and once again it’s Vera Wang. As I wrote after Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s wedding, Vera Wang is once again THE celebrity wedding dress designer. She is three for three in 2021, beginning with Ariana Grande, then Gwen, and now Issa. And curiously enough, all three with sweetheart necklines, so if celebrities set wedding trends, we’re about to see a lot of sweetheart necklines for the next year or so at civilian weddings.

Vera designed two dresses for Issa – a gown for the ceremony and another for the reception:

On our group chat, Duana said that she was surprised by the dress, and I get where she’s coming from. Issa’s wedding dress is beautiful, but it’s also closer to “classic” than I would have predicted considering some of her red carpet choices at events. But that’s an example of how red carpet style is not necessarily wedding style. With a red carpet, there are multiple opportunities to try all kinds of looks. Every wedding is intended to be the last wedding, and so Issa picked something timeless – we’re never going to look back at this in 50 years and be all like, that’s so dated now. This dress will hold up.

So…who’s the next to get married in Vera Wang?

If you say Jennifer Lopez, well, I mean a wedding is certainly possible (we can’t rule it out!) but as Maria has noted, she wore Vera Wang when she married Marc Anthony and it seems unlikely that if she were to finally, actually, marry Ben Affleck she’d go back to Vera? Although…what do you think she did with the dress from back in 2003?
