Wuthering Heights promo continues apace, with the premiere happening in Los Angeles last night. It was a night of Big Dresses. Everyone wore a Big Dress, starting with Margot Robbie in Schiaperelli.

I am a sucker for an ombre effect! Give me a dip-dyed hem any day! Robbie also wore Elizabeth Taylor’s “Taj Mahal diamond”, given to her by Richard Burton for her 40th birthday. This is a slick piece of theme dressing, wearing a token of affection exchanged between a pair of legendary lovers while you’re promoting a film about a pair of legendary lovers. I don’t mind theme dressing when it goes beyond costumery, and this is the kind of thoughtful styling that really does underscore the film’s themes. Here’s a closeup of the necklace on Robbie:

Back to Big Dresses! Charli XCX showed up in voluminous Vivienne Westwood.

Not my favorite! You know what IS my favorite? Hong Chau, who plays Nelly in the film, in this Thom Browne Affair:

 This is great, no notes.

Emerald Fennell, meanwhile, did not wear a Big Dress but did commit to a piped peplum:

Everyone’s so all-fired upset about her adaptation already, I appreciate that she committed to dressing like a full villain. She looks like she’s ready to poison James Bond, which is maybe appropriate, as Jacob Elordi has recently emerged as the frontrunner in the “next James Bond” stakes. I cannot support it as long as he is sporting that baby stache. Why do the young men insist on this? It doesn’t look good on anyone. My most elderly opinion is that this baby stache is terrible and everyone should shave it off immediately.

Finally, I want to leave you with one last look, from comedian Atsuko Okatsuka. Not a Big Dress, but bonus Banana Socks.

A bowl cut and banana socks? Be still my heart! Fashion is fun!
