Jacob Elordi brings his dog
First Margot Robbie, now Jacob Elordi has his turn on Jimmy Kimmel Live! I actually double checked the corporate relationships here, to see if Disney, which owns ABC which airs Kimmel, is ultimately behind “Wuthering Heights”, what with the way that movie’s stars are passing through like Marvel actors before a new Avengers movie. But no, “Wuthering Heights” is being distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery, so this is just a good old-fashioned media blitz.
Taking a page from the Glen Powell Always Bring Your Dog playbook, Jacob Elordi showed up to Kimmel with his golden retriever, Layla. He takes Layla everywhere. She’s been in Men’s Health and Vogue with him, and honestly, I am more interested in whether or not Elordi shows up with Layla than I am if he shows up with Olivia Jade. Layla is just one of those dogs that just looks like a total sweetheart. She’s like the Platonic ideal of “dog”. Jacob Elordi is immediately 10 points cooler for showing up with Layla.
Elordi also fresh off a BAFTA nomination for Frankenstein. He has now earned nominations from all of the major award bodies, including the big three: Oscar, SAG, and BAFTA. He won the Critics Choice Award, and he’s been honored at the Palm Springs and Santa Barbara Film Festivals—significant “press the flesh” events for the Academy – so even if Jacob Elordi doesn’t win another trophy this year, he’s kind of already won. Frankenstein has pushed his career to the next level, now we have to see what he can do as a leading man. I mean, we know from The Kissing Booth, but Elordi has yet to recant his sh-t opinions on the teen franchise that made him a star in the first place. That remains a strike against him. No amount of cute dog makes up for sh-t talking the rom-coms that made you popular!
Maybe he’ll change his tune, though. He’s 28 now, I feel like Robert Pattinson was around 30 when he started singing a different song about Twilight and acknowledging what those dumb movies did for his career. There’s still time for Elordi to have correct opinions about starring in female-centered entertainment (which is that it is NOT embarrassing or less than to be a rom-com star).
For now, though, Elordi has to get through the one-two punch of Wuthering Heights and Euphoria’s third (and final?) season. This is a great time to have a dog to take on walks and keep yourself offline. The internet will not be normal about any of this.
