Dear Gossips,
Janet Jackson this week announced a new album, Black Diamond, and a new world tour kicking off in June in Miami. Tickets go on sale today. To promote the album and the tour, she made a surprise appearance on The View to invite Whoopi Goldberg to the show – and the rest of the audience too. And she stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, talking about her son, Issa and how musical he is. He takes cello lessons. He’s 3 years old!
As Janet said, “Black Diamond, it’s the toughest of the stones, of the diamonds to cut. And I heard that immediately as hard to hurt, to destroy. And in my recent years, I’ve come to realise that I’m incredibly strong. And I see myself as this rock, rough around the edges, and just wanna share some of my strengths, and stories”.
I find it interesting that she’s telling this to Jimmy Fallon, ahem, one of Justin Timberlake’s closest friends. I’m guessing JT doesn’t come up when Janet’s on Jimmy’s couch. #NeverForget
Also on The Tonight Show, Jimmy and The Roots joined her for a performance of “Runaway” using classroom instruments. It’s adorable, and she looks SO … happy, at peace.
I want this for her. I want that energy for her, for that energy to carry her through the tour and the rest of the year. Janet will be 54 in May. Women at 50 and over 50 (Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts) have been thriving in pop culture lately. That should be true for Janet too.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
