Hey look, it’s Jason Mantzoukaaaaaaas! Jason Mantzoukas does not get photographed a lot, the fact that a photographer caught him out in LA yesterday means he either called the guy himself (doubtful, not the type), or that photographer was looking for someone else and saw Zooks going about his day. I’ll take the latter for $500, Alex.
So, what has Zooks been up to lately? Besides being a That Guy comedy actor—who occasionally pops up in John Wick movies—and co-hosting the perennially popular How Did This Get Made? podcast (I sprung for the vinyl edition of the Drop Dead Fred episode, an all-timer and, to my mind, a comedy album worthy of shelf display alongside Steve Martin. It’s a podcast episode about an early 90s movie that turns into one of the most compelling improv comedy fights ever), he’s voicing a character on Star Trek: Prodigy, the final season of Big Mouth is coming next year, and Zooks is playing Dionysus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. Finally, a casting director who knew EXACTLY what to do with Jason Mantzoukas: cast him as the Greek god of wine and good times.
We don’t get to see a lot of Jason Mantzoukas around here, but it’s always nice when he pops up. I just wanted to give the once and future Adrian Pimento his due (how’s the Brooklyn 99 watch going, Lainey?). Jason Mantzoukas will always be a That Guy—That Guy in our hearts!
