Editorial Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston covers the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. She’s been doing the celebrity profile for 30 years now, there’s nothing in this interview that hasn’t been said before. And I can’t believe that we’re still reading magazine articles about her getting her big break on Friends and mentions of how toned and svelte her body is.
After three decades and soooooo many of these profiles, most of them have become interchangeable and indeterminate, like Paul Rudd’s face. It could be from ten years ago, or it could have been ten minutes ago. What Jen is sharing in this interview has that evergreen quality, and it’s really only the promo about what season The Morning Show is currently is that gives it away.
That, by the way, is also Jen’s approach to personal style. As Maria noted yesterday in her latest As Seen On Social Media post, Jennifer Aniston has a uniform. Few variations in her hair, and the clothing is mostly little black dresses. Or black tops and black pants. Jeans with flipflops and white tees or shirts. The occasional wedge. It definitely works for her, she looks great, but there’s also not that much range. It’s hard to get hard for Jen when she’s on a red carpet or making an appearance, not even in a bad way. Because sometimes a spectacularly WTF fit brings its own fun.
This is why her photo shoots for her magazine features are much more interesting than what she has already said. When Jen agrees to a magazine profile, it means she’s being styled by someone else for the purpose of editorial, who’s making choices for Jen, obviously, but also for the publication in terms of what they want to showcase for their readers. The looks are suited for the subject but also for the season in terms of reflecting what’s popping in the fashion industry.
So it’s not that Jen is wearing neon green or anything that far outside her wheelhouse, it’s just that the neutrals she’s known for are cut in a more interesting way. You can see it from the jump on the cover.
She looks great in this white lace Ralph Lauren dress, and obviously those shoes do not vibe with her real life image, they’re so fun on her in this setting. The makeup is gorgeous too – more dramatic than we usually see on her, but perfect for her expression and the look.
As for the other outfits, here’s a coincidence. Yesterday I posted about Nicole Kidman on the cover of Vogue – in a Saint Laurent dress with a drop waist bow that opens up into a delightful bubble.
Jen’s wearing the same one in Harper’s only in black (or a darker colour than Nicole’s). Second slide below. With a cowboy hat. She wears a lot of black dresses but not all black dresses are created equal and most of her black dresses over the last few years have been forgettable. This one is special, I can’t see her in this one for a premiere or an awards show – but I hope being in this one makes her rethink that because it’s amazing on her.

The Louis Vuitton dress with the black leather opera gloves in the final slide is also full of possibility. Again, it’s an outfit that’s much more Charlize Theron than it is Jennifer Aniston but my point is, these are the times when I wish Jen would be open to more style play. She looks so good in this hat too.
