Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler have kicked off the press tour for Murder Mystery 2 which starts streaming on Netflix on March 31. If I saw the first one, I can’t remember it, but a lot of people must have if Netflix threw money at them to make a second one, so here they are last night in Paris, where much of the story takes place, at the premiere.

Before the premiere, though, Jen and Adam appeared via live video call on This Morning in the UK and at one point, Jen says “sh-ts and giggles” and Holly Willoughby had to apologise because…

Well, that’s my question. Because why? I also work on a daytime talk show, we are in our tenth season, and I have the ignominious distinction of being the first host to break the swear barrier (like Jen, I also said “sh-t”) and our producers had to scramble to get it edited out of the subsequent broadcasts in later time zones. Since then we’ve had guests come on who’ve blurted out some sh-ts and f-cks and it’s been the same scramble and then fingers crossed. The way it works (this is a simplification) is that you have to hope that someone doesn’t log an official complaint with the regulatory body because if they do, then you have to respond to all the paperwork that gets filed and that takes up energy and manpower, and if they determine that what happened on air is off-side, you get fined, or you have to put a notice up on air at some point, which serves as an apology but also takes up valuable time that would otherwise have been sold as advertising – so it costs you in the end…

Over a word that is pretty inconsequential. Like, seriously, what’s going to happen?! I’m not saying we should make it a point to drop sh-ts and f-cks every other word, but if it slips out once in a while, or you use it for emphasis, surely the children will survive? It’s not like they don’t see worse on Twitter and TikTok in the palm of their hands. But I’ve also wondered about the person who hears a sh-t or a f-ck on the TV and puts aside everything they’re doing to lodge a complaint. Because it takes energy to complain, too! It’s 2023, why are we afraid of the big bad swear?

Anyway here’s Jen, in a slinky gold dress, with white fur sleeves that she took on and off, a look that’s very much in her wheelhouse, but also a good choice for this event. It’s her first red carpet in support of this movie, and this is the kind of drip that makes headlines. These are the pictures that are everywhere today and that’s a big part of the job for an outfit.
