JLo: A European Glow Recovery

Jennifer Lopez was in Italy all last week and now she’s in Paris just in time for haute couture week and … she looks GOOD. And the glow is back. For a weeks there, after cancelling the tour, amid all the speculation about the status of Bennifer and whether or not she and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage, the JLo signature glow was muted. In Europe though? Full glow recovery. 

Look at these shots of her today, serving outside her hotel on the way to the Dior show. I can’t get enough of the video. It’s the way she walks towards the door and then just stops on the stairs, immediately in pose position. Like it takes less than a second!

This is what the woman is great at – a photo, the angles, finding the light, giving cvnt, as the kids say, on a moment’s notice. This is why I continue to f-ck with her. Because, like, I want this from my celebrities! I want this drama, I want this extra, and I want them to want it too. She is not here to apologise for loving the attention. She is not here to make me feel bad about the presence of these photographers. And by the way, this is where JLo and Taylor Swift intersect, because Taylor doesn’t hate it either. Her advantage is that she’s found someone who is willing to enjoy it at her side (and slightly behind). 

The way JLo is performing her celebrity outside her hotel, on those steps, she can’t do that when Ben Affleck is around. Yesterday, when all that footage of Travis Kelce’s cameo during Taylor’s concert in London started blowing up on socials, Kathleen texted me to say, “This is so JLo coded”. It totally is in the sense of how public TNT is, how they know it’s a story, how they know they are a heatscore, and how comfortable they are with it. You will note, Kathleen didn’t say “this is so Bennifer coded”, it’s “JLo coded”. 

But there are times when it has been Bennifer coded. When he feels like it. And he has felt like it! We saw those pictures! At some point, though, he changed his mind. So it’s better for her to go off to Europe on her own. To be at fashion week on her own. So she can fully BE JLo. Without having to worry about his relationship to their fame and then having to be blamed for his vacillating participation in it. 

Last week I posted about Ben’s appearance on Kevin Hart’s talk show and the story he told about walking through Times Square with her and their children and how they were basically mobbed. There’s video of that now, and it’s worth watching because, at least to me, it gives us some insight into what it’s like when they’re together. And the truth behind some of the photos that we’ve seen of them together. It was mayhem with the paps as they went to see a show on Broadway. The reason for the mayhem, as Ben explains, is him. He was the one who decided to walk and not drive.

Almost all of the time, when he has his “bitch face” on, people assume she’s the reason. Sometimes he just has a bitch face because he knows he made the wrong call. She’s the wife who doesn’t fight him when she knows it’s a bad idea because you know you can’t change his mind and you also know, later on, when he’s WRONG, he’s going to f-cking stew about it and you don’t want to be like, I told you so. I mean, I know, because I’ve been there! 

Anyway, while JLo’s reviving her glow in Europe, Ben’s back in LA and he was seen popping in at the house they’re trying to sell and still wearing his wedding ring. She’s also been wearing hers. So it remains status quo, for now, and the weekend after next is a long weekend in the US with the Fourth of July but since I’m Canadian, if that’s really in our future, better that weekend than this coming one because our long weekend starts on Friday ahead of Canada Day a week today. If they do it this weekend I will consider it a diplomatic act of violence!
