Intro for September 25, 2025
Dear Gossips,
Preliminary ratings for the Tuesday night episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! have been released and they were bigly. Over six million people tuned in on linear to watch Jimmy’s return after the network suspended his show, and that doesn’t include streaming, so the number will definitely go up. That also doesn’t include something like 23% of the affiliates owned by Nexstar and Sinclair in local markets because those companies are still refusing to bring Jimmy back on the air.
Jimmy made a point of naming those cities in his monologue on Tuesday and again last night and this is smart, because he’s calling out to viewers in those communities who might be watching his show on YouTube, should they want to do something. But not just the viewers, it’s also the advertisers. Because with that kind of interest, the advertisers are missing out on potential eyeballs during this surge in viewership.
Speaking of YouTube, as Sarah wrote in her post about Kimmel’s comeback yesterday, she was seeing the spike in real time while she was watching, and at the time of this writing, Jimmy’s monologue is up to 19 million views online. That’s a record for his show – and it’s also boosting other videos on his channel. So money is coming in there too. As The Hollywood Reporter noted, “Nexstar and Sinclair really missed out”.
Most people agree that Jimmy “met the moment” the other night in his highly anticipated return. And now he’s returned to doing what he was doing before the controversy – on Wednesday night he opened by addressing how that buffoon in the White House reacted to the news of the unsuspension. Obviously that clown had a hissy about it. While also having a hissy over a broken escalator. Clearly, then, even after the chaos of the last week, Jimmy and his team are refusing to let up on the administration, their corruption, and their incompetence. Hopefully the audience and the public will refuse to let up on the support that made his return possible. Because it worked. As many have pointed out recently, dictators throughout history have always targeted satirists first. His most recent attempt has been thwarted, but he will keep trying. Which means that laughing at him is part of the fight.
Here’s Jimmy’s monologue from last night. Watch if you can.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
