I’ve read a lot of Jodie Turner-Smith interviews. I haven’t seen a lot of Jodie Turner-Smith interviews and certainly not on North American late night television, so it’s not yet familiar to me what she sounds like as herself. Of course I’ve seen Queen & Slim but she doesn’t speak in Queen & Slim like herself. She speaks as her character, Queen. Jodie is now promoting Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse so she’s been on the press circuit and since she’s been in New York, she stopped by in studio at Late Night with Seth Meyers and this, to me, feels like the closest representation of what a real conversation with her might be like, her personality, her energy.
She’s cute. She’s playful. She’s smart, she’s quick, she’s sexy. And in terms of the work, she clearly understands what you bring to a late night interview – anecdotes, personal stories, and looks. You serve the looks. We’ll get to that in a minute, let’s talk first about the stories. Because the story that she tells that’s making headlines is how she met her husband, Joshua Jackson.
Jodie of course knew who he was, because she watched Dawson’s Creek and, like the rest of the world, was all about Pacey. Still, obviously, she wasn’t about to fangirl him right away. I don’t want to spoil the story if you haven’t watched yet so here’s the video and she says at first they were a “one night stand”. Which…thank you, Jodie, thank you for describing it that way because the heat is quite clearly there. Anyway, that’s just the *beginning* of it all though and you’ll get the rest when you hit play. But it’s undeniably adorable how into each other they are.
So he followed her around for an hour? I believe it. Because HER FACE. Look at her face!
I love the neckline on her in this dress. I love the sleeves. I love that it’s giving me Anne Boleyn vibes, kinda, right? And even her hair is swept back in a way that Tudor flavoured and even if it wasn’t intentional, it still works because of course she’s playing Anne Boleyn in an upcoming television series and now we know why she was cast because you can’t take your eyes off of her, she is magnetic.
