Join me on #TeamBread!
A few months ago I posted this on Instagram of Jacek baking bread:
I was sick and useless today. Meanwhile my husband baked bread from scratch.

He went nuts over the bread my best friend Fiona made for us during our last Vancouver visit and then truly lost his mind when she told us she had baked it herself. He’s been baking at a clip of two loaves per week since and had never baked a thing in his life until then.
Jacek considers himself a bread expert. He is super judgy about bread. And while I’m not quite as obsessed as he is, I have always appreciated a good loaf when I see it. Bread brings me joy. I could never live gluten-free. Or carb-free. It’s basically part of my identity. So when the teams at D’Italiano, Wonder, Casa Mendosa and Country Harvest reached out a few weeks ago asking me if I would join #TeamBread, I was like … OF COURSE.
Since Jacek’s bread revelation we have been baking a lot of our own bread and many of you told me you’ve since tried the recipe yourselves. But, to me, certain sandwiches just don’t work with artisanal bread. Like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And when I’m craving a PB&J, I have to use either Country Harvest or Wonder Bread. There are also things we can’t or won’t attempt to bake and would rather buy at the grocery store. BBQ season is coming. In the summer we BBQ at least 4 out of 7 days a week, and always on the weekend. There is nothing like a burger after a round of golf. So even prior to our #TeamBread partnership, our go-to has always been D’Italiano hot dog and burger buns – they’re soft and more dense and substantial than others we’ve tried and you need all of that when you’re stacking a burger with fixings 3 stories high – for me that means avocado, tomatoes, a special relish we get from Nova Scotia, ketchup, and mustard. We’ll also regularly pick up Casa Mendosa if we need tortillas for lunch or breakfast wraps. I just learned how to make pulled pork in the slow cooker so I’ll be doing a lot of pulled pork wraps this summer.
All of this is to say that our #TeamBread partnership isn’t a stretch from how we do things. So over the next few months you’ll see me promoting some of these brands on my Instagram and Twitter as we celebrate BBQ season, indulge with the odd syrupy breakfast, and try new recipes. Happy BBQ season and join me on #TeamBread!
