Tonight is the night Love Island USA viewers have been waiting weeks for – the season seven reunion episode! Quick announcement for our Squawk community: we will be LIVE CHATTING the reunion starting at 9pm ET on Substack. Please watch for the dedicated piece that will be posted a few minutes before. 

As for how long we’ll be at it…? Last year’s reunion was almost 90 minutes but, again, we’ve been hearing about how they were shooting this year’s reunion for 12 hours. So I wonder if they have enough to go a full two hours. 

Those of us in Canada have been wondering about whether or not we’re getting it. Confirmed – we ARE.

Right before the big reunion, though, there’s already drama. Yesterday the Love Island USA algorithm started blowing up about a possible Pepe and Iris split. The streets (and the unfollows) are saying that he cheated on her.

And now Amaya and Bryan have unfollowed each other and she is giving heartbreak on her socials. So the reunion tonight is going to be one show, and the Instagram and TikTok activity from the cast after it airs will be the sequel.

Serena Williams was not at the US Open yesterday because she answered the call from… a friend. Throughout her career, they talked so much sh-t about Serena’s character, her attitude, whether or not she had the personality of a champion. And she just kept challenging herself and winning and growing. She is grace. She is class. She is style. She is the one and only. Seriously, I’m too petty to be this generous. 

Lewis Hamilton is enjoying his downtime as Formula 1 is on summer break but… as he says… no days off. For whom, sir? You or us? Because you are making it too hot and hard in here for anyone to work! I was just minding my own business the other day when this popped up in my feed and suddenly I was useless for several hours. Also, if you’re wondering, he’s on a yacht in Greece. 

This post has become sporty so we’ll just stick to that theme for the rest of it. Speaking of yachts, it seems like David and Victoria Beckham and their family have been yachting all summer. Well, ahem, not the whole family, but most of the family. Cruz decided it would be fun to do a father-son junk-spread pose. So is this how the kids are doing swimwear now? The tiny tight trunks used to be for gross uncles. Gen Z, I guess, has decided it’s their time.

Last week in this space I posted about Steph Curry’s trip to China and that bonkers drone show they put on for him in Chongqing. They treated him like a king. And I don’t think he’s exaggerating about how much it meant to him. 

I have loved seeing all the culture that Steph was able to experience in China but my favourite is his reaction to Sichuan “face-changing” opera.

I’ve never seen it myself in person but my aunties and other relatives talk about it all the time and it’s an increasingly rare artform. If you’re interested, here’s a video that shows you what was happening to make Steph react like that. I know this is hard to believe for some Swifties who think Taylor invented it, but Chinese people have been using colour in performance to support character and motivation and storytelling for a long, looong time. Like centuries. 

BTS’s V will be throwing out the first pitch at the Dodgers game tonight. I’ve mentioned that ARMY broke the ticketing site after it was announced and sales have surged because of Tae’s appearance. Merch too. I’d love to know how many more jerseys etc the Dodgers have sold. And they’re making money on the customisation too.
