What Else?
Justin Baldoni and his partners have now formally sued Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. It’s over 170 pages and I’m about 60 pages through it and so far my takeaway is that Justin Baldoni says that Justin Baldoni is awesome and innocent and a hero to women and the creative industry and that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are the opposite. I’ll get to it whenever I can finish reading this f-cking thing over multiple sessions.
As Dustin Rowles notes in his post about it today, there are some omissions in Justin’s filing and from what I can gather from what I’ve read so far, a lot of inflammatory language and distraction and deflection techniques. For example: “Blake let me hold her baby one time” so she must be lying about not trusting me. There’s also a cameo by Taylor Swift who is at one point, in a text message from Blake to Justin, described as one of her “dragons”. The text message is long but the headlines making rounds right now just refer to that “dragon” comment and not what comes before, which makes more sense in context. Which of course makes their friendship look silly and juvenile. Still, this is what TikTok will seize upon, at least the corner of it that is already predisposed to hate Blake. Justin Baldoni’s team has already dragged Disney into this mess, and now they’re invoking Taylor. Be careful what you wish for. (Pajiba)
The Academy, right now, seems determined to move ahead with the Oscars and there are other events that will go forward during award season, like the BAFTAs over in London. For events in LA though, if they are not cancelled, the tone and look will certainly be different, maybe even scaled down. The Fug Girls note that Zuhair Murad new collection is award show ready. There is a lot of black and white. (Go Fug Yourself)
I posted about the TikTok migration to Xiaohongshu yesterday. And so many non-Chinese learning Mandarin. Duolingo has addressed this and their response is funny although I will say that I was on Duolingo a while back to learn mandarin (I speak Cantonese) and, honestly, it wasn’t a great experience for me because… I became too obsessed. Like how people get addicted to video games. I was too busy earning points and caring about rankings than actually learning. Honestly I probably learn more mandarin and Korean for that matter from watching C and K-dramas. (The Mary Sue)
Brad Pitt covers the new issue of Us Weekly because it is very important that you know how relieved he is now that he and Angelina Jolie are divorced and she’s campaigning for an Oscar with the children at her side… and not at his side. (Celebitchy)
Lady Gaga went to Burger King. And I have two questions. First of all, where did she get her boots, I want them. And second… not really a question but an observation… her fiancé, Michael Polansky, appears to have used the washroom. I am married to a man who would also use the fast food restaurant facilities even though I would never. Ever. Do you think Lady Gaga would?
