Kate Beckinsale is promoting a movie called Wildcat that opens today in select theatres. As you can see from the poster and the trailer below, she’s in her action bag, playing a character who might have been a former assassin and her daughter gets kidnapped and maybe there are two rival gangs in London who are involved…?

Charles Dance is in this too so everyone is getting paid, there are worse things to be mad at and besides, Kate has been through it. As she has shared, she lost both her parents after caregiving for them and, on this movie in particular, her late mother came to set and she posted videos of the visit on Instagram because the experience was obviously bittersweet.

As part of the press tour, Kate was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, arriving in an over-the-top outfit, as she does – fur coat, huge bow, even bigger boots. But that’s not actually the story here. Nor is the movie. In fact she did not talk about the movie at all, really, during the interview. And it’s her fault (not that anyone is to blame here) because she derailed the conversation in a way where that was the only direction it could have possibly gone.

I read about it before I watched it. And, trust me, it’s way better hearing her talk about how her daughter’s boyfriend keeps laying eggs, LOLOLOLOL. That is a wild sentence to write, but this is a wild f-cking story. Which is probably not true. But she’s so good at making it seem true. She’s good at conversation and storytelling, period. Like, the way she goes on about it she may as well have been telling Jimmy about making pasta. He’s in shock and clearly confused and she just keeps going, like it’s the most mundane thing – that she knows a person who can lays eggs on a random Friday. It’s also the asides, as one does when they’re a skilled conversationalist, adding details that sometimes are related to the story but sometimes have nothing the f-ck to do with anything…

The point is, really, not the eggs. It’s that Kate Beckinsale is a GREAT talk show guest. She committed to a bit and she nailed it. She decided that the best way to sell her movie was to go on Jimmy Kimmel and say the most batsh-t thing she could say, without offending anyone, and watch it go viral…and it has. Does Kate Beckinsale have a podcast? I know we’re well beyond saturation where celebrity podcasts are concerned but if she started one, I would listen. Because hers would be good, guaranteed.
