Kate Mara prefers to share her personal and relationship milestones on her own terms. And when she does, we get just a taste. When she and Jamie Bell tied the knot about 18 months ago, the wedding snap caption read simply, "Nuptials." And now, she's confirmed she's pregnant with their first child together (and her first) at the Elton John Aids Foundation Oscar viewing party on Sunday:
Much like with Kate and Jamie's wedding, what we don't know is when they got married, or her estimated due date. Pregnancy reports first began swirling after Kate's appearance at the Globes in January, but she waited until this weekend to make it public, and at that event specifically. It was a work night for Jamie, and a time to network for them both, while celebrating their news.
Jamie, of course, is starring in Rocketman as Elton John's (Taron Egerton) longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin. And at the party, he and Kate posed with Elton, who is also an executive producer on the film... in a move not too dissimilar from Brian May and Roger Meadows Taylor's involvement with Bohemian Rhapsody. But as Sarah pointed out last week, Rocketman looks way more "FUN" and, perhaps, more three-dimensional.
Anyway. Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, Taron does all his own singing in Rocketman, without any layering or lip syncing. And our first glimpse of that came at the bash, when Elton and Taron took to the stage to perform a live duet of “Tiny Dancer.” It was a pretty stellar rendition. Between that and the Rocketman teaser that aired during the Oscars, this movie is definitely cashing in on any goodwill it can and is intentionally pegging itself to awards season.
Taron’s Rocketman promotional performance was by far the biggest story from that party this year, giving Kate and Jamie the space to announce their news with a sly confirmation, and then return to maintaining their lowkey vibe. I dig it. These two have seemingly mastered being able to stay under the radar, with a good amount of control and restraint over their public image. We only learned the name of Jamie and ex-wife Evan Rachel Wood’s five-year-old son Jack back in January, since the former couple wanted to protect his privacy. And we still haven’t seen a glimpse of Kate’s wedding dress beyond that initial photo. I love the mystery, and I love this couple. Though with Rocketman’s May release possibly syncing up with the baby’s birthday, it’s hard to say when we’ll learn more about this new addition, if at all. And I like it that way. It gives you another reason to refresh the feed, right?
