Kate Winslet in London yesterday at a private screening of The Reader for which she just received a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe nomination. As opposed to the overbronzed overblonde Hollywood divorcee clone Kate from last week, this is the Kate I know and love. The one Halle Berry said is always naked sitting on a toilet in a movie. It was a compliment.

With her double acknowledgment yesterday from the HFPA Kate’s on pace to receive her 6th Oscar nod. But the chances of her actually winning one may not be so strong for Best Actress. The frontrunner right now has to be Sally Hawkins (although with little financial support to campaign behind her, she might run into a momentum problem). Still… for Kate… Supporting Actress might be where it’s at. After all, it’s the reason why Harvey Weinstein pushed forward the release date for The Reader. And Harvey knows all about Oscar campaigns.
