It was every holiday on the calendar today for Kdrama fans around the world and I’m trying not to say this in all caps and all the exclamation points but, like, for the uninitiated, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin are if George Clooney married Julia Roberts, or Keanu Reeves married Sandra Bullock, or Leonardo DiCaprio married Kate Winslet, or Denzel Washington married Angela Bassett, or Timothée Chalamet married Florence Pugh… none of which could or would ever happen. But it happened in this case. It happened after Crash Landing on You when Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin fell in love IRL and got married and had a baby.

And they are rarely ever seen together in public. But on this night, they were at one of the most prestigious award shows in Korea, the Blue Dragon Film Awards – and she won Best Actress for her performance in No Other Choice and he won Best Actor for his performance in Harbin! Plus they were also winners of the popularity awards, LOOK AT THEM!

Here’s Hyun Bin embracing Ye-jin when his Best Actor win was announced…

…and thanking her in his acceptance speech.

This is history, the first time a married couple in Korea has swept these awards, a huge story in East Asian media today. And by the way, before they were married, they did the same thing, won together, on the television side. Iconic, truly!

Now if you haven’t already, see No Other Choice, one of the most outstanding films of the year and likely a contender for the Best International Film Oscar – Ye-jin is f-cking magnetic in this role.

PS. Sorry I don’t have actual photos from this event and have to use old ones, but the western agencies we subscribe to didn’t have photographers there (ugh) and we don’t have access to the Korean agencies.

What else happened today…

Jessie Buckley, the frontrunner for the Best Actress Oscar, went for a deep plunge at the Los Angeles premiere of Hamnet and I hope it’s the start of more bold red carpet choices for her going forward as the favourite. (Go Fug Yourself)

I mentioned anime earlier in the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue post because of Michael B Jordan and The Mary Sue has a list of the top 10 psychological anime thrillers if you want to explore the genre. (The Mary Sue)

Kayleigh Donaldson on the Starbucks Teddy Bear Cup craze. Between this and the Labubu this year, I’m going Labubu. (Pajiba)

Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton on their first red carpet since welcoming their second child. (Celebitchy)

Lila Shapiro’s fascinating piece on people who have AI lovers and claim that they are “real”. (The Cut)
