Karl Lagerfeld for some people meant wedding dresses and bows. There were a lot of feathers too. That was the uber-feminine side of Karl. But he was also known to mix some menswear in with the femme. That’s what Kerry Washington was serving last night.

Kerry is wearing custom Michael Kors. She looks insanely good in the lace bra tap and matching skirt with the mermaid flair. But it’s not complete without the jacket draped over her shoulders. And, of course, that neckpiece. A nice way to nod to Karl without going over the top.

Ashley Park was also in custom Michael Kors. Fishnet may not be as immediately associated with Karl and Chanel as bouclé and tweed, but there’s so much subtle fishnet patterning in the Chanel aesthetic. He sent models down the runway in fishnet tights all the time. And the iconic Chanel quilt pattern that you see on the bags is basically a fishnet. So Ashley’s dress is 100% on point. And then, of course, the fingerless gloves.

But if we’re talking fingerless gloves, we have to talk about Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan because…

LOOK AT HIM.

This is custom Christian Dior by Kim Jones. And it’s more than just the gloves. It’s the oversized collar. It’s that tie! The jewels on the tie…and the chains underneath it! The sunglasses! The swag!

The detail in this suit and its accessories are breathtaking. But they also suit him perfectly. He told GQ that this was a bit out of his comfort zone but from where I’m sitting, he looks totally at ease. Because he’s still himself. He’s Ke Huy Quan, Oscar winner and now fashion guy…but also still an endearing and earnest goofball.
