There was a press conference in Sweden today for the beginning of production on Lars von Trier’s Melancholia expected to shoot through September with an impressive cast that includes Stellan Skarsgard, John Hurt, Charlotte Rampling, Kiefer Sutherland, Kirsten Dunst, and the inimitable Charlotte Gainsbourg who, photo assuming here, doesn’t seem like she’s too impressed with the new lead.

Kiki, you see, replaced Penelope Cruz, von Trier’s original choice in the “psychological disaster” film who had a conflict with Pirates 4. It marks yet another step towards career comeback for Kirsten with two small projects already in post and now hand-picked by the controversial and eclectic von Triers - these are good moves, even if her co-star Charlotte, now apparently a von Trier’s regular, remains unconvinced.

But of course. Charlotte Gainsbourg must be EARNED.
