I missed the debut of King Kylie because I don’t really follow the Kardashian/Jenners like that. Was aware of the nickname, did not know what it was associated with, but King Kylie has returned and since she’s in my algorithm now that she’s with Timothée Chalamet, I’ve seen the headlines today about King Kylie’s comeback with her first single.

Personally I don’t care for the song. But to those who are complaining about it, what I do want to say is: you did this, LOL. Don’t tell me you didn’t because I know I’m in the minority when I say that I’ve never watched a single episode of their shows. Anyway, here’s the trailer for “Fourth Strike”, Kylie’s new song, and I’m sure it won’t be hard for you to actually find the link to the song, so I won’t post it here.

All of this, of course, is to celebrate 10 years of Kylie Cosmetics. It’s obviously an achievement that her business is now a decade old but note also that Kylie’s makeup is nowhere near as hot as it once was. It once was such a smash that I spent money on the lip kit, initially for my niece and then for myself back in 2016/17.

Now, though, she’s given me an excuse to put you onto the lip products I’ve been using for a couple of years now. The reason I stopped using Kylie’s lip kit is because it was too dry. I like a matte lip, glossy will never be my thing. Since I work in television, I’ve tried more options than the average person and while there are good options out there, it was either that the colours weren’t quite right or the texture wasn’t right, too light or too thick. Or it was all right but it would bleed or clump on reapplication.

What I want my lip product to achieve is a blur-matte effect, but still feel like my lips are moisturised. Shaby, my makeup artist, calls it “popsicle lips” – you can’t quite see the edges, the line isn’t super defined, but it’s also not sloppy.

And you know what country can f-cking crush a “popsicle lip”? Korea, obviously.

My popsicle lip champion is the Dasique Cream de Rose Lip Tint. It comes in 15 shades and, no joke, I have all of them. This, in my opinion, is an all-star product and not enough people talk about it. The first time I brought it into Shaby’s makeup room and she put it on my lips, she lost her mind. WHAT THE F-CK IS THIS? Not exaggerating.

It goes on like a liquid matte lipstick. But super light. And when it dries, it’s still creamy… but not gunky. There’s good pigment but it’s not too intense – that’s where the blur effect comes in. Like somehow it works like a tint in that it absorbs into the lips but also works like a matte liquid in that the product is strong enough that your lips don’t feel dry. And, of course, the effect of this is that your lips look SO SOFT with that popsicle effect. Oh and did I mention the price? In Canada I buy the Dasique Cream de Rose Lip Tint at Oomomo for $13 a tube and I would put it up against any lipstick that sells over $40. Bring it.

If you are not in Canada you can get it directly at Dasique here.

Next, in second place – the Rom&nd Zero Matte Lipstick. It’s a standard lipstick tube so the application is different but it goes on creamy and is the perfect balance between pigment and intensity for the popsicle blur effect. The reason this is #2 for me is because Shaby and I have found that it works better with a lip brush. I’m lazy so when I’m doing my own lips, I prefer to apply direct without using a brush and that’s the Dasique advantage over Rom&nd. But when Shaby’s doing my makeup, and applying with a brush, she feathers out the edges so that the popsicle situation is that much more amplified.

In fact, our favourite is combining both of them. Rom&nd with the brush first and then layering with Dasique on top. The result is a perfect lip day.

I buy Rom&nd Zero Matte at Oomomo in Canada for $12.75. If you are not in Canada, you can get on Amazon.

Not that this is an issue for him but I always think about this when I see a Range Rover because I like the look of the car. It’s just so much to maintain. Don’t come for me Range Rover!
