It’s Memorial Day in America. Lady Gaga spent the long weekend in New York, seen heading in and out of the studio, presumably working on a new album. Tony Bennett has dropped by and so has Bradley Cooper. We’ll get to him in the next post.
Gaga appears to arrive in one outfit and changes into another one on the way out. That’s the only way I can explain this runway. It’s only been a few days. And there have been SO many looks. The all-over leopard print coat and boots has been the most extra, the most Gaga high drama. Most of the others though are pretty 60s – a little Audrey Hepburn, a little Priscilla Presley, and all of it worn as costume, in performance. What, exactly, is she performing? Because with Gaga, the clothing always reflects a persona, an era. We are about to enter a new era of Gaga.
Lady Gaga, Movie Star?
A Star Is Born will be released in October. That’s still a summer away but when you factor in marketing and promotion, some plans have to be in place already. I’d lose respect for them if they haven’t started yet. There’s a lot of positive buzz around the film, especially after a preview was presented at CinemaCon. We should be getting a trailer soon. We still haven’t seen the trailer that was shown at CinemaCon, which is what generated all the momentum. I’m wondering now if they’ll drop the trailer once the major pre-Oscar fall festivals, Venice, Toronto, Telluride, and New York, announce their lineups. I can’t imagine it not making the festival rounds to kick off award season. And at that point, we’ll also have some idea about the soundtrack. Movie soundtracks used to be a thing, remember? Black Panther’s soundtrack just went platinum last week. Before that, it had been a while since a movie’s soundtrack really made a pop culture difference. They have to be hoping for the same with A Star Is Born, especially with Gaga involved.
