Leslie Bibb: The Best of The White Lotus
I mentioned earlier in my post about the naked and champagne looks at the Emmys that there were several Armani Privé moments last night – and none better than Leslie Bibb. This is a look from the collection presented at Paris Fashion Week this past July where the theme was “Noir Séduisant”, seductive black, as Mr Armani explained in the show notes:
“For a designer, black is the most classic of colors and, at the same time, the most demanding. When you work with black, you cannot afford to make mistakes: every detail must be perfect, because black reveals the very essence of a garment.”
There are no mistakes here on Leslie’s sumptuous black velvet gown, with military buttons cinching like a corset, out of which bloom two breast petals that do indeed reveal the very essence of the garment – soft and hard, pliable and rigid at the same time. This is magnificent design and execution. After a lifetime of black dresses, to have conceived this one at the end of his is pure mastery of the artform.
Leslie Bibb understood the assignment. She is rating the Emmys as they should be rated – on par with the Oscars – wearing a designer who is responsible for making Oscars fashion what it is today. It was a fitting tribute to Mr Armani’s impact on red carpet fashion and I wish others could have shown up with the same energy, including some of her White Lotus cast mates.
I mean, I love Carrie Coon and she looks great in the pixie cut but the ice blue Chanel was a flop for me. Apparently it took almost 350 hours to make? Sorry but nothing about this dress is giving that kind of effort. The Matthieu Blazy Chanel era cannot come fast enough.

Then there’s Parker Posey in Valentino and I appreciate that the look is a little kooky and weird, like her and her character on the show, but I’m so over Alessandro Michele’s boho whimsy and it sucks that he’s taken over Valentino with his boring schtick. There’s a way to capture Parker’s personality without recycling all his old ideas. And I’m bummed for Parker that what she got from him was just plain lazy.

Parker presented with Walton Goggins who gave the people what they wanted – no tie, all cleavage, more teeth, and that hair. The song selection here with this TikTok is hilarious.

Is that new, the thing he’s doing with his mouth? I’m not enough of a Walt Goggins expert to know but it was really noticeable in his interview with Liz Trinnear for ETALK on the red carpet where he’s talking about what he wants his new hobby to be.
I’m not saying it’s a problem, in fact I’m trying to decide if it might be kinda sexy, just that this feels like a recent development.
Aimee Lou Wood attended her first Emmys in McQueen. It’s pink, with peekaboo red, and she’s so cute she’s doing it a favour, because it’s not all that interesting and the creases are making me crazy. But the fashion is not the story where Aimee is concerned. The story is that she attended with her boyfriend, Adam Long and she was so adorably happy for Owen Cooper, the dress is irrelevant (in more ways than one).

Black was the winning colour, it seems, for The White Lotus cast. Leslie did it in Armani and Natasha Rothwell served in Ines Di Santo. She looks gorgeous in the off-the-shoulder neckline, the sleeves are dramatic and perfect, and the neckpiece is glorious.

Also Meghann Fahy who was there for Sirens and not The White Lotus but we’re including her here anyway and her Valentino is so much better than Parker’s. This is a U-plunge instead of a V-plunge, like a men’s tuxedo without the shirt, very feminine but also masculine. Just not sold on the shoe but that’s my own personal preference as for me, a pump is always better than a strappy sandal.
And finally… Lisa. I love the gossamer effect of the dress, the material, the construction, everything about this is nothing like anything else we saw last night. And even though the lighting was trash on that carpet, this Lever Couture gown was one of the only looks that defied the lighting deficiency. It refused to be denied! Also, is it just me or does the train look like… noodles! Flat rice noodles!

But what happened to the hair? I don’t love her hair colour right now, it does nothing for her. And it’s kinda clashing with the pink in the dress but mostly it’s how limp her hair is, and the bangs parted like that, it feels like the hair was an afterthought, or no-thought at all, which is so unusual where Lisa is concerned, I’m curious whether or not this was always the plan with the hair or if they tried something else and it just didn’t work?
