Dear Gossips,

It was confirmed yesterday that Beef is now an anthology as there will be a second season with an all-new cast. An all-star cast. More meat? Very good!

The first season of Beef, created by showrunner Lee Sung Jin, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong was a critically acclaimed hit that went on to win, well, pretty much everything – Emmys, SAGs, Critics Choice, Golden Globes, Beef ran the table. So it’s no surprise that Lee was able to recruit such an impressive list of actors for the follow-up: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny.

It’s a new story but a story built around a conflict that spirals out of control, and becomes a satire about class warfare and the model minority, which makes it similar to The White Lotus and how that series is always built around the guests at a luxury resort in an exotic location but also themed around social hierarchy, sexual politics, and perhaps (if predictions about season three are to be believed) the inherent inequities in the wellness industry.

A synopsis of Beef 2 reads as follows:

“A young couple witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, triggering chess moves of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.”

The boss and his wife, presumably, are Oscar and Carey. And the young couple, Charles and Cailee. Can’t wait to see who’ll be cast as the Korean billionaire. And Oscar and Carey facing off against each other? If Lee Sung Jin was looking at nasty public divorces as inspiration, Hollywood isn’t short on examples. See also the British royal family.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
