Production on The Devil Wears Prada 2 continued this weekend in New York City with Meryl Streep seen once again in the red dress she made headlines in a couple of weeks ago. They were shooting a scene at the American Museum of Natural History that was clearly meant to be the Met Gala.

Here’s what that looked like at the time:

The Met Gala, but make it cinema 🎬👠 Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Ashley Simone, Ashley Graham, and Ciara just filmed a Met Gala scene for The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the Museum of Natural History. Meryl rocked a red gown and heels… and those steps nearly took her out 😭 #DevilWearsPrada2 #MerylStreep #MetGalaScene #FilmingNYC #MovieMagic #StanleyTucci #Ciara #AshleyGraham

Ciara, Ashley Graham, and Simone Ashley were there too. And, of course, Stanley Tucci. Evidently there’s a lot more to what happens in the story that night though. Because Meryl was wearing the dress again a couple of days ago while filming with Kenneth Branagh, who plays Miranda’s new husband in the movie. And there’s a shot of Meryl actually carrying the dress in a garment bag – curious to see if that’s part of the scene, not only because of course Meryl Streep doesn’t have to schlep her own wardrobe but also, that’s the job of someone in the wardrobe department. And I’m not saying it’s about grunt work and who should be doing it but just work, period. Everyone on set has assigned duties, a list of responsibilities that should be equally valuable to how production functions. Like, no doubt, Meryl is perfectly capable of taking her wardrobe with her, but it’s not about capability and it’s also not necessarily about being helpful – sometimes, especially in these times, we want to make sure that people have jobs to do so that they continue to have jobs.

Back to the look of this movie, much of the focus has been on the clothes, the clothes so far have been obscenely outstanding, in a way that And Just Like That… had maybe hoped to recapture from the Sex & The City days and never did. Prada 2 is definitely hitting that spot.

But while the clothes are becoming a character, can we just take a moment to appreciate Meryl-Miranda’s hair? It’s f-cking gorgeous, the colour is perfect, the movement is perfect, and like Anna Wintour, her hair is also becoming a signature.
