When Sarah, Duana, and I were doing our wrap-up on Zoom last night, the consensus is that this was probably one of the most well-dressed award shows we’ve seen in a while. I mean, sure, there were some boring choices, but not so boring that it veered into offensive. The “rat-faced people in television”, as Amy Poehler once said, were throwing down.

And it wasn’t just the women, it was also the long parade of men who showed up to show out. Let’s start with a winner and a favourite: Lamorne Morris, now the Emmy winner for Outstanding Supporting Actor (Limited Series). What a week it’s been for him. He was just at TIFF to promote Saturday Night, in which he plays SNL OG Garrett Morris (no relation…and NBD!), ahead of its October release; I interviewed him twice during the festival – once in our ETALK lounge and again on the carpet and I can confirm, he’s the best, so nice, so thoughtful, so funny… and his performance in this film is amazing. But even though he won for his performance in Fargo, much of his popularity is due to his performance in New Girl. People LOVE him from New Girl. But he also has a lot of love in the industry which is why so many people in Hollywood and beyond are so happy for him, including Glen Powell who posted this in stories:

Lamorne has been working a long time building up to where his career is right now. If you haven’t already, Vanity Fair profiled him recently and it’s worth the read.

Last night would have been very, very emotional for him. It was already emotional when he received the nomination. This was one of the most unanimously popular wins of the night.

@lamornemorris

When I found out about my Emmy nomination, my daughter thought it would be fun to roast me.

And speaking of Lamorne’s daughter, Lily, the piece he was wearing on the lapel of his Dior tux was a tribute to her – a lily. The LA Times did a “get ready with me” report at Lamorne’s place that’s also worth your read, just for how adorable he and his family members are.

But he wasn’t the only one with the tux game. I mean, Joshua Jackson… have you seen his glambot moment? I don’t know what he’s doing with his finger there but it doesn’t matter. The hair, the fit, Pacey Witter is getting hotter and hotter.

And it was adorable the way he laughed to his entrance music when he was introduced as a presenter:

Josh presented with the stupidly beautiful Matt Bomer in an aubergine jacket and open shirt, no tie; the colour was mentioned many times during our live chat at The Squawk and it is indeed a great colour but, like, it’s any colour on him, isn’t it?

Matt and co-star and co-nominee Jonathan Bailey, almost impossibly sexy, kinda coordinated with their looks. Jonathan didn’t do purple but his silk shirt was white open and he was rocking a cummerbund too. I’m sad the Fellow Travellers run is over. The world is healthier when they’re on screen together. Can we please find them another project?

Might as well continue on this run of ridiculously attractive men and follow with Taylor Zakhar Perez in brown on brown on brown. It’s Gucci, styled by Jason Bolden, and as you can see in his carousel, the Gucci print is all over, but subtle. I LOVE this suit, it might be my favourite of the night. Then again, like Matt Bomer, what does it matter when… THIS FACE.

Andrew Scott was also in brown, with a retro vibe. This is Vivienne Westwood – note the dramatic lapels, the ruffle shirt (like 80s prom… but so much cooler), and the flared pants. Bradley Cooper could never. But Andrew Scott? Please. It’s too easy.

And now, a controversial statement/question from me, please don’t come at me too hard…

If I could wear any outfit out of all the outfits we saw last night, I would want Alan Cumming’s. But I’m not Scottish. Am I allowed? Because I am obsessed!

Alan was asked on the red carpet about Taylor Swift in plaid at the VMAs last week. His response, "That bitch stole my look”, LOL. But it wasn’t just about the serve, Alan also accessorised with a message:

And finally, Bowen Yang. Bowen is wearing Bode and an ode because that top underneath his suit jacket is giving Chinese. Reminds me of the piano shawls my ma and aunties all had when I was growing up. I’d play dress-up with them when I was a kid. Google “Chinese piano shawl” and you’ll see the similarity. And here we have Bowen modelling it down the red carpet at the Emmys. Even if it wasn’t a tribute to his heritage, it’s still a total f-cking slay.

But wait, wait, before we wrap up this post…

A shout-out to two sexy white dudes who may not have brought it with their fashion but a lot of us are crushing hard on them anyway, at least we are over at The Squawk. Seth Meyers is getting hotter and hotter, right?

And John Oliver could get it – every week on Last Week Tonight for his takedowns of all the worst people ever (plus Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio) but also because his acceptance speech about his dog (sob!) was one of pure John Oliver. It was uncensored here in Canada – and all the better for it. Like that Sarah McLachlan joke he came up with on the spot? Brilliant.
