A Big Bold Beautiful Beginning…
Without commas.
Anyway, you aren’t here to talk about punctuation and clearly I’m the only one bothered by it so let’s focus instead on the kickoff of Kogonada’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey press tour. He was at the photo call yesterday with his lead actors, Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, as they get in as much promotion as they can before the Labour Day break because after the long weekend, it’s a crowded entertainment landscape with all the film festivals happening in Venice, Telluride, and Toronto, plus NY Fashion Week, and the VMAs and the Emmys.
Interestingly, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey opens September 19, five days after the Emmys where Colin is in contention for his first win for his performance in The Penguin. It’s been him and Stephen Graham (Adolescence) in the Outstanding Actor miniseries or movie category. If Colin wins, it might be a nice bump for the film…while he’ll be showcasing his next film, Ballad of a Small Player.
As for Margot, this is her first film since Barbie two years ago so it’s been a while but it might not feel like it’s been a while because the Barbie Oscar campaign stretched into 2024 and then the discourse shifted to Wuthering Heights. Technically, though, it’s a comeback, especially since in between she had her first child, a boy. And as has been the case with so many high-profile celebrities the last few years, the baby’s name has not been shared. TMZ must be so frustrated that they haven’t been able to find it.
Margot is wearing Stella McCartney, styled of course by Andrew Mukamal who’s had a busy summer. He works with Vanessa Kirby and we saw how many fits she needed for the Fantastic Four press tour, and also Lindsay Lohan for Freakier Friday. Margot, obviously, is who he’s best known for and this is an excellent choice for her first red carpet since giving birth. Love the exaggerated hips but also love that even with all that boning, it doesn’t look complicated. Like it’s a one-piece swimsuit that became a dress. And she kept it fresh with the hair and makeup – beach glow, easy hair, summer vibes. It sets the tone for the rest of the tour wardrobe.
