Men also attended the LACMA Gala, and I have divided them into two camps: men who tried, and men who showed up. Let’s start with the men who tried, led by…Taylor Zakhar Perez, in a white suit, sans shirt. This is a VERY good look on him.

Next up is Law Roach in Ferragamo and a blonde Ken wig. He looks fantastic, but what is that color? Mulberry? The berry reds are all so close on the color wheel.

Another man who tried is Colman Domingo, in Gucci, though this is a lowkey look for him. He’s mainly getting points for wearing a neckerchief. Forget day to night, Colman is going from dinner to stylishly solving a murder mystery with his little neckerchief, doing Benoit Blanc proud. Closing out the men who tried with brothers John David and Malcolm Washington. John David wore a burgundy suit, and Malcolm sported a long Gucci coat. I hate the string thing, it looks so half-assed, but the coat is beautiful.

And now for the men who showed up, starting with Lee Jung-jae. He looks dapper, the brooch is a nice touch, but ultimately, this is just a tux. Ditto for Dev Patel, who looks handsome as hell, but again, just a tux (although someday we’ll look at all these photos of Dev Patel in tuxes and wonder why he’s not playing James Bond). Finally, we’ll end with Nicholas Hoult, who opted for all black and a cummerbund, but no tie (speaking of Bond, wouldn’t it be a scream if he came out of nowhere to nab the double-oh from presumptive heir Aaron Taylor-Johnson?). The menswear game has stepped up in recent years—thanks in no small part to fashion monsters like Colman Domingo—and the days of getting bonus points for wearing all black are over. These men all look great because they’re all very handsome, but they’re not pushing the envelope, they just showed up.

But re: Nicholas Hoult, who is currently starring in Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2, according to The Puck, Warner Bros. Discovery will now mount a “small” awards campaign for the film after online outcry over WBD dumping the film in less than 50 theaters with minimal support, proving that bullying does work sometimes.
