When Diddy and Yung Miami walked onto the Met Gala carpet, most of us were confused because they definitely broke up, right? Yung Miami confirmed the split last month and said they’re friends, but she wouldn’t call what they were doing dating and then on the carpet Diddy agreed, telling Vogue they don’t like to put titles on it. So they’re in a constantly evolving state of undefined connection. Got it.
Well, they looked cute together posing up and down the steps, all smiles. Between them, Diddy was actually the style star. He returned to designing clothes for the first time in ten years to create a Sean John original for the Met Gala. His once-iconic streetwear brand’s first-ever couture look. I loved the cape, which was covered in satin camellias as an ode to Lagerfeld’s Chanel.
Setting the bar for hot couples were Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade. A duo that serves face like no other. Just two models who have the bone structure, but more importantly, the attitude to command the Met carpet. They’re both in monochromatic Prada looks. I love the simplicity and Dwyane’s gloves are a great nod to Karl.
Taika Waititi and Rita Ora also returned to the Met Gala this year. I actually really enjoy them as a red carpet couple. Her dress is by Prabal Gurung. It’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but at least she brought some Met-worthy theatre with a dramatic train. My favourite part though, were the diamond chains hanging from each of her fingernails. And I’m still not used to seeing Taika with such short hair, but I really enjoyed his suit. It feels like a more feminine silhouette, but the way it’s styled and how Taika purposely posed with one hand in his pocket brings a complementary masculine energy.
Looking at these three couples, did the men outshine their ladies?
