I’ve watched Michelle Obama’s speech from the DNC last night several times. She’s as direct and concise and as clear as she’s ever been. Because now is the time to make sure everyone understands – and it’s just not for Americans, what America does has world implications: another four years with that buffoon in office will only mean more devastation. Laurence Fishburne isn’t going to be in The Matrix 4 – and he’s not upset about it. I think this is a pretty gracious answer. And besides, it’s not like he’s not going to work with Keanu Reeves again. Laurence is also part of the John Wick Universe. And the Bowery King is for sure coming back in the next John Wick, right? Today is 8-18. August 18. In Chinese culture, we love the number “8”. August 8, 8-8, is considered super lucky. But 8-18 is pretty lucky too. Two years ago, on this day, 8-18-18, it was a good day. And that was the day that Crazy Rich Asians came out – and the numerology seemed to work because the movie was very successful, it won the weekend box office, and the premiere red carpet was luxe. They greenlit the sequel but…I feel like we’re still at least two years, at best, from that happening. I do have some ideas for casting though. (Go Fug Yourself)
Social media algorithms always f-ck me up. Netflix algorithms too. My algorithm on Twitter is all BTS and Chinese and Korean dramas. BTS probably is all over everyone’s algorithm because no one else matches their trending numbers. I’ll tell you what didn’t cross over into my algorithm though: I had no idea Scott Baio was trending. This is not a problem. (Pajiba)
We started this post with Michelle Obama and we close on Michelle Obama. Specifically Michelle Obama’s superpower – as Constance Grady writes, it’s her “ability to connect”. (Vox)
