The Christmas day theatrical calendar is crammed with films squeezing in an Oscar-qualifying run before December 31, including Halina Reijn’s Babygirl. I’ll have a full review next week, but in short, it’s a holiday rom-com for the horny and deranged.
Promotion for the film is kicking into gear as everyone gets in their last public appearances before Hollywood closes for Christmas (the industry observes the liminal space between Christmas and New Year). To that end, Nicole Kidman and director Halina Reijn attended a screening at The Grove yesterday. The night before, Kidman wore floral Balenciaga to the premiere:

Also included here is Kidman’s co-star, Harris Dickinson. I kind of had a Harris Dickinson problem after Triangle of Sadness and The Iron Claw, but I FULLY have a Harris Dickinson problem after Babygirl, a film that leans hard into Dickinson’s tall guy sexiness. Harris Dickinson and Nicole Kidman are both tall, Halina Reijn lets them both be tall on screen, it’s the hottest thing about the film. Nicole Kidman is never sexier than when she is Being Tall. Just legs for days, arms so long she could slowly squeeze the life out of you from Australia.
Y’all, I am SO tired. What’s happening. Oh right, Nicole Kidman is outside, and Babygirl is good. But f-cked up. But also, so good. Maybe Kidman’s career-best performance. Definitely Harris Dickinson’s career-best performance. They’re both so tall and so mean to each other. A lot of people will hate this movie, but if you liked watching a woman slowly poison her husband in Phantom Thread, Babygirl is the holiday movie for you.
