Nicole to Chanel

Matthieu Blazy’s first Chanel collection is underway as I write this. As mentioned in today’s open, this is probably the most highly anticipated show of the season given Chanel’s history. I was just talking in my Anne Hathaway post today about the musical chairs situation in the fashion industry with so many creative directors moving to new houses. And the celebrity ambassadors too! Like Greta Lee going to Dior with Jonathan Anderson from Loewe, and Ayo Edebiri from Bottega to Chanel with Matthieu. 

Now another one, because up to this point, Nicole was Balenciaga’s ambassador and today, it was confirmed that she’s returning to Chanel as brand ambassador after 20 years. And what timing! 

Nicole Kidman was the gossip heatscore last week because exactly seven days ago, news broke that she and Keith Urban had broken up. And here she is, at Chanel, supported by her daughters. 

As you can see, Nicole’s wearing the white shirt that was teased in previews ahead of tonight’s presentation. Needless to say, this white shirt will be now be a new house signature. More on Chanel tomorrow, for now it’s the gossip. Because this is Nicole’s first official public appearance since filing for divorce. So the timing is intriguing and it goes back to what we were discussing last week. All the reporting about the Nicole and Keith split is that he wanted it and she was trying to save the marriage. Making it public, then, like the day before their daughter, Sunday, was to walk in the Dior show, and a week before Nicole was booked at Chanel, doesn’t seem like the kind of publicity she would have signed off on. Which would suggest that Keith has been out of the loop on the family’s schedule. Or clearly didn’t give a sh-t. The fact that Nicole is joined by both her girls, of whom she has more than 80% custody, further reinforces Keith’s not-very-good look in this situation. 

Back to the fashion for the final note on this for now, Nicole was also joined by Jason Bolden (backwards baseball cap), you can see him give her a quick adjustment in that video above. Their collaboration has been SO good since he started styling her and now we wait to see what Nicole + Jason + Chanel by Matthieu Blazy will be giving us on future red carpets.
