That’s what happened this weekend in New York. The New Kids were performing. They sang a Backstreet Boys song, then the Backstreet Boys joined them onstage, then the Backstreet Boys sang alone, then they all sang together and jumped around the stage and you can imagine how the fans lost their sh-t.
Meanwhile I am trying to silence that bitch inside my head that wants to feel sorry for them because, you know, these men are still working hard, so hard, too hard for enjoyment, hard enough to call it a hustle, a hustle tinged with desperation, because they squandered it when they should have saved it...?
Let the 14 year old win out today. Let her believe that you do it while you can, that there is no shame when you’re pleasing fans, and that as long as there are people willing to listen, they should keep singing.
