Rihanna: Soon but not yet

It’ll be a big story when Rihanna gives birth to her third child. And since she’s been so visible during all three of her pregnancies, and it seems like she’s getting close, whenever she’s not seen for a few days, people wonder if the baby has arrived. Soon, but not yet. We have an update that’s not an update: Rihanna stepped out yesterday in Beverly Hills to run some errands. She and Rocky were also out for a walk earlier in the week. Not a July birthday then. 

Let me just skip over the fact that RiRi is wearing thong kitten heels, the most hideous footwear choice, and talk about something that made me laugh yesterday. There was a new post on her IG feed, ostensibly a promotion for J’adore Dior as the ambassador for the brand. And only Rihanna can get away with doing brand promotion that’s this unproduced. 

The video was clearly taken on the same day that she filmed this Smurfette featurette last month before the movie opened – the outfit is the same, the hair and makeup are the same. I guess she thought she’d get a two-in-one out of it. There’s nothing to it, though, not really, just Rihanna, saying “J’adore Dior” before handling the fragrance bottle and spritzing some on herself at the end. 

But the video opens with the most unglamorous shot of the hallway, obviously taken on a phone, to her dressing room and a trash can with a blue trash bag pulling focus beside a pretty unspectacular craft service table, LOOOLLL. It’s basically the least amount of production effort because she can sell it on personality. And…well…just her. She spent less time on this than most influencers do on an outfit of the day post. I know this because the work time on my branded posts can sometimes be DAYS, like between shooting and editing and getting approvals, etc. For Rihanna? This was probably an afterthought!
