Pamela Anderson was in Deauville today to receive the Talent Award from the festival and she gave one of the best acceptance speeches of at least the last decade, at any event. Please, if you have five minutes, watch it for yourself because she is brilliant. And she made a point to address some gossip. But let’s not lead with that. Let’s lead instead with how Pamela is both confident and vulnerable.

As we’ve seen over the last few years, Pam has boldly created a new career path, successfully releasing herself from the bombshell box that we collectively had tried to trap her in to open up so many more creative lanes, lanes that she has always wanted to explore – it’s just that she was too far ahead of Hollywood and also the audience.

She knew this so, as she says at the beginning of her remarks, she kept her secrets, her secret ambitions, her secret desires, her secret interests and passions. By the end of the speech though, Pam is done with not voicing what she wants, not going for what she believes she can do. And she says it with her whole chest – not with empty words but in specific detail, naming directors she wants to work with, like Werner Herzog, with whom she was supposed to collaborate but the project fell apart years ago. Pam took the opportunity on that stage to openly express her desire to make it happen, to not keep it a secret but instead let it see the light, so that perhaps it might take flight.

Using her old secrets and her new revelations as bookends to her speech is an example of her gift of expression. She is a beautiful communicator, because of course now she knows exactly what she wants to communicate, and that’s what makes her a great artist. But there’s another layer of intelligence here – Pam the artist is the one who is addressing the gossip.

The gossip over the last few days is that she and Liam Neeson were faking dating to promote The Naked Gun. TMZ went hard with this story, calling it a fauxmance. Shortly after, PEOPLE went in the other direction, citing sources who say that Pam and Liam had a “genuine” connection.

In her speech, Pam shuts down the rumours that she was in on any PR stunt and her reasoning? Because it offends her sensibility as an artist! Basically she’s too good, too authentic of an artist to ever have to play these kinds of games and don’t you dare accuse her of doing otherwise.

Apologies forever to Pamela Anderson, for all the years of disrespect and underestimation and plain ignorance. I was the loser and the asshole. She has always been better and the rest of us will never catch up.

What else happened today…

Earlier this week in a post about Jennifer Lawrence, I wrote about her position in the Oscar race and how the momentum that she had coming out of Cannes had kinda slowed now that Venice, Telluride, and TIFF have kicked off, wondering how her campaign would respond. Well, now we have a new trailer for Die, My Love. (Pajiba)

Catherine Zeta-Jones has made some unexpected clothing choices over the last week while promoting Wednesday. (Go Fug Yourself)

It's been rumoured for a while but now it’s official: Sophie Turner is the new Lara Croft. (Autostraddle)

Oh look, one of my favourite topics that so many people consider a taboo topic: taking a long time to take a sh-t. So long that you need a book or your iPad or maybe even a phone in there because, well, for some of us, it’s not quick. I’ve never been quick sh-tter. I am married to one. Sometimes he’s finished before I climb the short flight of stairs from the basement to the main floor because I have this thing where I refuse to be on the same level in the house when he’s dumping. Not surprising that this makes me more susceptible to hemorrhoids. (Celebitchy)
